Have you ever felt guilty for wanting more?
I know there have been times when I’ve wanted more in my life, yet a wave of shame or guilt would wash over me for not being content. I felt like wanting more was wrong. There’s this idea that wanting more means your not thankful, not content.
But that’s not truth!! Paul says right there in Philippians 4 that He knows how to be content even while he’s “in want.”
Philippians 4:12 “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
1 Corinthians 2:9 even states: “However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” — the things God has prepared for those who love him”
So! There is no shame in wanting more! In fact friends, we SHOULD want more. We should eagerly desire and strive for more of what God has for us. AND at the same time be so thankful for all that He is doing in the season we’re in.
We CAN acknowledge our want, or desires, without complaining and grumbling. Let’s do that. Let’s desire more while being content, filled with gratitude for what God has given us and for all that He is doing in the moment we are in right now!
