I’m no longer a fan of road trips.

Ok, so back in the day road trips were totally fun.  I mean, there are times of course that I’d be like “aren’t we there yet!?”  But it was still fun.  Blasting music, windows down, hours of peaceful contemplation, or deep discussions…

Not so much anymore.  Yesterday we arrived in Co. at around 1 p.m.  We left our house in Ca at about 8:30 p.m.  We decided to go at night because it would be easier on the boys.  This way there wouldn’t be so many stops since they’d be sleeping or moments of tearing out our hair because of their whining.

For the most  part we were right.  It was a fairly eventless but no one got great sleep, except maybe Tyler in his comfy car seat.

On the few stretches I drove it was pretty bad.  You know when your driving and everything becomes blurry and you have to hunch forward in order to focus, or shake your head hoping the drowsiness will fall off?  At one point I had the air conditioning blasting on me, chomping on some gum and actually tapping my face to stay awake.  It had only been an hour and I wanted to tough it out to give Dave a little more sleep…  We also demolished two boxes of candy, a bag of pretzels, an apple, a grapefruit, two coffees, 4 sodas, two chicken sandwiches, a bacon egg and cheese biscut, a mega burrito from Del Taco and a few twizzlers.  Oh and a bag of popcorn.   Not so good for my diet…

My body is actually pretty wimpy.  I really do need good sleep every night to function right… but in the end it’s all worth it.  A night of driving to be able to see and spend good time with family.  There is nothing like pulling up somewhere and having people dear to your heart run out of the house with big smiles and wide open arms shouting welcome greetings with hoots and hollers!

Even being tired, there is something so precious about being surrounded with the warmth and noise of loved ones.

Praise God for family!

Now if only he would bless us with teleportation…

  1. Just the thought of a trip with Paige makes me cringe these days! I’m so glad you guys get to hang out with your family for a visit 🙂
